Tonight it's the Grammies, a few weeks ago it was People's Choice awards. In a few more weeks it will be the Golden Globes. Add in all the other award shows: Academy Awards, Emmy's, BET Awards, etc.

It's obvious that many performers live in LA but it seems that these award shows would be held in other cities once in a while. Why not New York?

Performing in plays, which is acting, just not on television

Awards are in LA because both the music and television/film industry was housed here and is still housed here to some degree(music is suffering, but cinema not so much).

Country Music Awards are held in Nashville, TN

Why not LA? It's still the capital of the entertainment industry. I'm not sure having the Academy Awards in Seattle would make much sense.

The Golden Globes have already been held.

The HQ of the Grammy's is in Los Angeles. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (The Oscars) is also based in Los Angeles. So is the Hollywood Foreign Press (the Golden Globes). So is the Television Arts and Sciences (the Emmys).

OK, here's one I don't get, and it's annoying. There's one awards presentation that starts at 5AM in Los Angeles, presumably to accommodate the east coast coast people. That's right, 5 in the morning. And KNX 1070 AM covers it live, interrupting my listening of their traffic broadcasts (when I used to commute to Huntington Beach from Thousand Oaks for example). Don't remember what awards show it was but what the heck, 5AM?

Weather. It was Jan 31st... a red carpet in New York or Chicago would be saturated in dirty slush and ice, not to mention the stars could say goodbye to any nice outfits unless it's a bulky winter coat.
