Why don't more parents take advantage of Magnet Programs so we can prevent future budget cuts that result from lack of program enrollees? Read: School-Magnet-Programs-What-Every-Parent-Should-Know at HubPages.com

why? probably because everyone who could utilize the program needs someone to either personally recommend it or they need the media to tell them to.

from my POV that's the way things work. it needs to be marketed via word of mouth or media.

word of mouth killed beta video! vhs won! well at least until dvd's became recordable then utility won.

here to resurrect the budget cut / magnet issue. Heard that LAUSD is cutting Magnets again , of course every one must tighten their belts when cuts come around, again.
As a two year participant in a newly opened Gifted High Ability Magnet in lausd, I say slash this one at least to the ground and put the kids in classes where they can learn something before it is too late .

Not only have the kids not cracked the textbook in some of their classes, they spend the majority of class using AVisual material ( as in discovery channel ), coloring reproducibles, listening to the teachers voice.
Not a scrap of homework all year, 2 teacher made tests , no encouragememnt to explore the subject outside of class , yet they miraculously come home with "A" s .

Other classes send home "word search dittos" found off homeschooling websites , as homework.

The kids are admonished for having cell phones on campus, yet their teachers can take personal phone calls during class, stepping out into the hallway to conduct them of course so that they ensure learning time is completely stopped for that personal moment...

The kids are ridiculed for their " dress code " violations during class time by teachers from other departments who barge in on classes in session to walk the aisles looking for devients all the while sporting spaghetti strap tops them selves...

the number one reason to slash the budget at this particular school is .............. the hypocrasy of one teacher who forced the kids to watch a movie depicting the history of racial/ ethnic hate, and the prevalence of youth white supremeist groups in america in order to show the kids what will happen to them if they continue to name call in the hallways ..... now makes sport of calling kids names IN the class room . snotty brat, jack ass, to name a few.

Bottom line...if even one official that was contacted because of this sham of a program would take accountability for their title and paycheck and correct these matters , parents would fight tooth and nail to keep the program. Instead, we have a community waiting with baited breath to see the principal and her salaried Magnet henchmen run out of town . waiting waiting waiting.
