Hi,
I'm 28 years old working actually in the IT industry in France (Master degree).
I always wanted to move to LA but I know that it's actually very difficult (if not impossible) to get a visa.
So do you think it would be a good idea to take 2-3 months vacations to make some contacts (work & friends) there ?
Is it easy to meet people, make friends and how would u do it ?
I thought that looking for a room with some roomates would be a nice start to meet people & immerge into LA culture.
Money wouldn't be an issue as i can get 10 weeks paid vacations/year.
Thanks a lot !
Regards,
Manu

Stay in France - US companies only provide two paid weeks per year plus maybe a half a dozen holidays.

I personally find meeting people/making friends to be easy out here. Sometimes I think being British helps but I have noticed that A LOT of Americans ask me if its true that the French don't like them but then A LOT of Americans tell me how much they wanna go to Paris. It's weird.

Yes but that's the only good thing here, I spent several weeks in South California and I can say that the life is way better there, in reality for the first time, I felt like i was "home".
For that reason, I thought that spend several months there could be a good thing to experience life and see if i want to move.

Wow 10 weeks! I think that's more than Denmark! When I worked for a Danish company I would constantly get "out of office replies" notifying me of people's 4 week in a row vacations.

Honestly, come out to L.A. and see if you like it. It will be vastly different than what you're used to. But ultimately, it's your call. If it's your dream, follow it.

Sure, come on out and check it out. You might get lucky. To get a visa these days you need to prove that you have skills that no one else has. But French language software localization may be one of those skills that could get you a job here. A lot of the companies here have to do multilingual software, and Americans are notoriously mono-lingual.

Who knows?
