Thanks uptown_urbanist. I think I'd be more cautious on moving if the legal climate here wasn't as bad. If I'm going to be stuck looking for a job for a while in a place, I'd rather it be Los Angeles. I was laid off two years ago from a law firm and it took me 8 long months to find naother position. At least in LA I could actually be productive (meaning beach).

Did your friend eventually land another paralegal job or did she compromise (like legal secretary, non legal).

Yes it will definitely be possible for you to get started with $8,000. And like in any city, whether you have a really hard time finding a job or not depends on a combination of luck, experience and how good you are at "getting a job."
