There's a new study out by INRIX that ranks LA as #1 in traffic congestion. Here's our scorecard: INRIX National Traffic Scorecard (http://scorecard.inrix.com/scorecard/MetropolitanDetails.asp?ID=1 - broken link)

Here's the list of worst bottlenecks in the nation: INRIX National Traffic Scorecard (http://scorecard.inrix.com/scorecard/Top100Bottlenecks.asp - broken link)

The INRIX website has a lot of interesting traffic data on it.

Looks like the 101 is the main culprit... I'm glad I don't have to deal with that freeway when I commute.

I was a little surprised Denver was worse than San Diego.

On freeways with right of ways designed (1950s) for 10 million.

What would happen if the 405 was this wide?

Not as bad as NYC. NYC is seeming congested all day long, either because of traffic, or reparimen fixing weather ravaged roads

The Toronto 401 works better though in my opinion than any of the L.A. highways. It has shoulders, and the lanes are grouped into collectors and express lanes in a predictable fashion (and physically divided too). I'm no fan of the Toronto 401, but it doesn't scare me the way the Los Angeles highways do, where there is often a solid concrete wall marking the left edge of the left lane, and also a concrete curb marking the edge of the right lane. All margin for safety seems to have been taken out of the Los Angeles highways (I assume to increase volume); I don't think Toronto is that bad yet.
