Hey,

In a few weeks I will be visiting the USA. (Belgium here) ;o)
I will be staying in Santa Monica and I want to visit a company that is located on the Ramish Ave, Bell Gardens, 90201.
I don't know if it's a touristic area or not, but I just want to avoid getting into gang neighborhoods.
I have never been in the USA before, so I just don't know what to expect.
I read that I have to avoid Compton and Watts, but I don't know if the GPS will send me through it or not.
What's Bell Gardens like ?

My gut feeling is that during the daytime, the biggest concern you should have is traffic. That will not be a fun drive during normal commute hours. If possible try to drive after 10AM and before 2PM. Exiting the 710 at Florence I saw at Ross and an It's a Grind coffee shop so right there, I would say it is a busy place and little to worry about during the day.

I just did a google street view; that neighborhood looks light industrial and residential.

Before you drive, visit www.sigalert.com. There are several ways to get to Bell Gardens from Santa Monica. Maybe 405/105/710 or 405/10/5/710 or several other permutations. Just check traffic first.

I've lived very close to here my whole life.

Bell Gardens is primarily a working class Hispanic neighborhood. A little worn, but not an absolute dump. It is pretty safe. The further west you go and you'll run into southern Los Angeles and there are some bad spots there.

As Charles pointed out it is a mix of residential and industry, being very close to a city aptly named "Commerce."

Plus you can go gambling at the Bicycle Casino (in Bell Gardens), or the Commerce Casino, if you like...

Yeah, I've heard about the gambling there.
But just after a few days of vegas, I think we'll skip the gambling in Bell Gardens. hehe
The shop that I need to visit (4seating.com) is only open from 10 am till 5 pm, so I can only visit it during the day.
Now I just have to learn the american streetlights.
It's almost the same as in Belgium, but I've heard, even when it's a red light, you still can drive and make the turn.

As long as that turn is right.

You still have to stop, and after it is safe to make a right turn, you can make a right turn. If you don't, this might happen:

What happens when I just wait untill the light goes green ?
So even if it's safe.
Will the people behind me start yelling and using their horn ?

Yeah, people will honk. I've been honked at for daring to yield to pedestrians (state law) while making a right turn. Welcome to LA.
