Yes, ArtWalk is only once a month. That said, the downtown scene is NOT a ghost town of homelessness anymore. Sure, Skid Row still is.

But from Little Tokyo to the 7th Street corridor there is activity in the evenings (including weekends). The new bars, restaurants, and residents are spilling out into the street.....

And just wait a few years and BROADWAY will burn brightly into the night!!!!

Yet the more expensive/newer housing complexes, like Little Tokyo Lofts, all have 24/7 armed guards. There's a reason for that

Idk, man. The restaurant row on 7th St (I love Bottega Louie!), I'll give you that. But the office ghettos towards Fig and Bunker Hill empty out after work hours, and Broadway (which I mentioned) is still the stomping ground of transit riders and vagrants. Some parts, like the areas near just east of South Park have no people altogether, as they are largely vacant lots and/or fashion wholesalers, and thus inconducive to pedestrian traffic. Still, though, I'm just happy that things are for once finally looking up!

I've yet to see any homeless at L.A. Live. Hell, we have homeless people lotsa places, its part of living in the big city. They are on the edges of the Music Center/Disney Hall but that doesn't mean the place isn't vibrant or desirable, or unlikely to draw crowds. And yes, LT is great at night. Lots of people in the Japanese Village area, the Weiland, R23.

Either Hollywood or Santa Monica. Hollywood has the bright lights, vibrant nightlife, and overall "big city" feel. Not to mention it's right on the subway line. Santa Monica however has a more diverse selection of activities going on. The pier, the beach, the Promenade, boutique and department store shopping, and a wider selection of restaurants.

IMO Hollywood has more energy in the air, but Santa Monica has more substance underneath.
