They speak english and are relatively intelligent
I wonder how you'd feel if the Brits emigrating were chavs and not, say, Simon Schama's?

I made the move from UK - one thing that surprised me is how bloody hard it is for a British person to move here! We have to go through all kinds of nonsense to come here. I would have thought that it would be a lot easier due the fact that US-UK relations are so close on many levels.

I came here as a student and have been working since I graduated. I'm a green card holder now I don't know if I will ever go back because the living costs are really high there and the job market is really bad too.

I think the article is a bit biased - a lot of British people really dislike LA too! A lot favour NY over LA, especially people from London. A big issue with LA is the lack of public transport.

BTW One issue I've suffered from is that many foreign born east-Asians living in LA refuse to accept me as being "really British". I was born and raised in UK but my heritage is Indian. Having to explain my background to them gets really old after a while

I live in (northern) LA county & avoid Santa Monica as much as possible, it's like the last outpost of the bloody empire down there. 300K Brits in California & with the exception of maybe 6 or 7 of us, all the others congregate around Santa Monica. It's like a bad night in Liverpool down there, even in the middle of the day.

I also visited the FB Brit in LA site for about a week, it's 99% out of work actors all trying to get their big break...so ideal if you need any info about waiting tables or loading retaurant dish washers etc.

I only go down to Santa Monica with Americans who want to try fish and chips at the C*ck and Bull or Ye Old Kings Head, or for tea service across the road.

It's not even worth going to British shops to get British food - you can get most of the stuff in Indian shops! There's an Armenian store in Burbank called Red Top Market which sell British chocolates cheaper than anywhere else.

I think fish and chips is a bit of a scam in LA, it's usually between $11-$16, that's more than double the UK price. Denny's do haddock and fries for $8!

I'm not really that interested in meeting other British people anyway - I'm in LA so I'd rather hang out with the locals.
