Hi,

I'm moving to Ucla for postdoc research and am in my mid-30s.
LLooking for a neighborhood that will be walking-friendly, fun, less undergraduate-y, and give me convenient bus-access to UCLA, and be at a walking distance to grocery shopping, cafés and bars/restaurants. I love walking around and writing in cafes. I'd love to get a perspective on what neighborhoods might be my best bet for ard 1500$ monthly rent and 1/2 h max one-way bus commute to UCLA - West LA, Santa Monica or Venice beach area, or any other?)

Thank you in advance!

westwood, palms, and west la have a lot of ucla undergrads. brentwood, santa monica, culver city, and venice have more of a twenty/thirty something crowd, mainly due to the rental prices for apartments. you should be able to find something in your price range in any of these places, but it will be dated and offer limited amenities. for bus routes check www.bigbluebus.com.
