I'm suprised this never got a response (until now) Racism? What Racism are you talking about, its prodominately Hispanic, and White and mixture of other races - Asian, Black, Indian etc...and having to be bi-racial myself, I definitely don't remember experiencing alot (yea some, but their were ignorant as the parents who taught them..wrong).....anyhow there are good and bad parts, both West & South Whittier come to mind, but not all of it, just some parts. Uptown has its bad parts too. Now if you have the clout it takes & lots of $$$$$$$, Friendly Hills, East Whittier, Whittier Hills, Spyglass and North Whittier, (although always thought N. Whittier was overated, not everything is nearby there, beside Puente Hills Shopping areas). The bad part that sticks out like a sore thumb is where the 7-11 is, both of them, Whittier Blvd near the 605 fwy entrance and Norwalk/Broadway right by the Parole office at that exact intersection.

The old gangs and the new generation that run the streets still exist (just back then they were ppl I went to school with, and for some reason they had a sorta respect about people back in the day, not like now where its just doesn't matter), respect is long gone, its a "FFF" U, "FFF" everybody, "FFF" this, "FFF" that... no matter what age, handicap, or even their own peers, just really unruly & sad as the folks that raised them....

Whittier is quaint area, the biggest thing out there is Uptown Festivals (I think they still have them) on Wednsday nites during the spring/summer months. They have car shows here & there, and stuff for old farts like me (antique faires & stuff)....Its my favorite place and my hometown, I'll always come back to (now residing in the IE and homesick)

I have friends in North Whittier. I think it's sort of ghetto but people have a "live and let live" attitude about race. I hear South Whittier is the bad side.

Default The south part of Whittier is the worst community I've ever been to!

The southern part of Whittier was the worst ovderall place I've ever been to. Most residents are violent and dangerous. They are low class and uneducated. The neighborhood is full of people on welfare who stare at and insult the halfway intellient people as though the decent ones are the ones who are uneducated. My worst day in another community or another part of Whittier is still better than the best day in the sourthern part.

The few decent people like myself who once lived there moved out because the crime against innocent people was so horrible and if you call the police, you'll have to wait hours before they come. If you're a law abiding citizen and you step foot in this southern neighborhood, then God help you!

The run down homes are extremely low priced. However, what good is it if you're going to be murdered?
