I am figuring out what to do as far as college, have looked at some different colleges in the area, someone on here suggested before that I could possibly transfer to UCLA and I have looked at it and think it would be a great place to transfer to. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a community college that would be good for a person to go to who is from out of the area, as I know most of these colleges are just for people who live right in the area which makes it kind of hard to feel like you fit in if you just moved to the area.

Someone said Santa Monica college might be good, I am planning to look at it, any other suggestions would be appreciated. The nearer to the UCLA area the better also.

Generally speaking, Santa Monica College is the best IMO for transfer to UCLA. All the other community colleges are a distant second. Again, in my opinion. Good luck.

Default Santa Monica College is the Closest...

to UCLA and the best rated junior college in the LA area. SMC has the highest rated transfer rate of any JC in the state to the UC system. The next closest in terms of distance to UCLA would be West Los Angeles College in the Culver City/Fox Hills area but it is weak academically. SMC plays host to many students from all over the world and is really equivalent to a medium-sized 4 year school in terms of activities, clubs and sports. It is a large school with a distinctly international flavor. Besides that, it's close to the beach, Venice, Third Street Promenade and all the other attractions on the westside. I went to SMC before I transferred and graduated from UCLA. I live in between UCLA and SMC and know the area very well. With all due respect, why bother with a Cal State when you could go to UCLA - a world class university and save a bucket of money at the same time?

I just looked at UCLA today and I agree it would be better than a Cal State, not to put down the CSU's but I have been to a lot (20+ probably) college campuses in California over the past few years for various reasons and UCLA is definitely one of the best if not the best, it has that real college feel to it that you just don't get much in California, the only other campus in southern California like it is USC and going to a school like USC for so much less money sounds appealing.

PCC is awesome. I went to Glendale College and found the professors quite caring and available. I went to El Camino but that was 16 years ago. It was great then.

I second PCC (Pasadena City College). It's got a nice campus in a nice city close to Caltech. I think it's second among LA CC's in sending transfers to the UCs. If PCC isn't the second, then it's probably Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Pierce is closer to UCLA than Pasadena, though still 20 minutes away.

Santa Monica or PCC... definitely. They are the biggest UC feeder schools.

PCC looks nice but it doesn't have guaranteed admission to UCLA, it seems like it has a guaranteed admission program to just about every other college except the one its closest to.

I guess it turns out Santa Monica college doesn't have a guaranteed admission program to UCLA either, oh well I think I'll end up probably going to CSULB and then maybe if I go to graduate school I could go to UCLA.

Default HOW IS The Art Institute of California - Hollywood

I AM CONSIDERING WHETHER The Art Institute of California - Hollywood IS GOOD OR NOT GENERALLY.
SINCE I AM SO INTERESTED IN DESIGN THAT I HOPE TO LEARN DESIGN IN AN INSTITUTE OR COLLEGE IN LOS ANGELES.
I LIVE IN THE SAN GABRIEL CITY, AND I PREFER A SCHOOL NOT FAR FROM MY HOME.
IN ADDITION, THE TUITION IS ONE OF THE ELEMENTS THAT I NEED TO CONTEMPLATE AT FIRST.
THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE.
