Okay... So for my wife and I, in LaFourche Parish, we've been quoted $376 a month for car insurance for my truck and her car, both low end, 4 cyl. models, both American, both with full coverage.

Why is insurance so high down here ? How do people in Louisiana afford such high insurance rates ?

I'm thinking seriously about just renewing my tags/insurance in Tennessee and playing the " I'm on vacation " card if I ever get stopped or in an accident..

Hi

I'm not there yet, but will be moving to the Ruston area soon.

If you haven't already, I'd shop around. I'm always amazed at how different the rates can be from company to company.

If you find a good company to go with, I'd love to know, as I'll be doing the same thing in a few months.

Best of luck to you!

Yeah, We did shop around, The agent actually told us we were in the best location for low rates, Right in between New Orleans and the industrial Port Fourchon areas...

$376 a month was the best we could get, Louisiana has the highest insurance rates in the U.S. according to the last agent we talked to, The cheapest company with the $376 quote was Farm Bureau, Who we're currently with in Nashville and our current insurance payments are $124 a month.

Actually considered moving to Iowa because we got a quote there for $60.

Not sure if they write coverage in your area but I use alliance insurance out of Metairie and have AAA insurance that runs right at $700 for six months with full coverage on my wife's suv and my truck.

Any chance you're ex-military? USAA provides us full coverage for my 2006 Dodge Ram and my wife's 2009 Honda Fit for $245 per month. We've been really happy with the overall quality of that company.
