I hope the fine is huge with a zero tolerance policy.

Just say no to endangering others lives. Most people don't drive all that well WITHOUT a cell phone in the mix.

It isn't a race, people.
YOU treat it that way. (well, some of you anyway)

Humans have become "screen time" addicts in such a short period of time. It would be funny if it wasn't pathetic.
Put the crack pipe cell phone down.

Just a touch of clarification on the new laws. Only texting applies to all drivers. Otherwise cellphone use is restricted only for novice/new drivers.

this is when technology like SYNC comes in handy. Just press the steering wheel button and it answers the phone and you can talk without holding a phone. Its still distracted driving, but a hell of a lot safer than holding a phone.

Actually it isn't any safer. All studies (that I am aware of) show a significantly increased risk while talking on a phone whether one is holding the phone or using bluetooth etc. The danger is in the talking, not the loss of using one hand.

If people were serious about saftey any use of a phone by the driver would be illegal. But no way the public will support that, so some states have laws requiring the use of hands free to make themselves feel better without actually saving lives.

So, in the name of safety, you're telling me that I can now tell my wife to shut up when she's riding with me??

How cool is THAT?!

Of course, that avenue could lead to far worse circumstances than just the loss of using one hand....

People are getting killed because spoiled yuppies are talking on cell phones while driving. Perhaps one day people won't be so self centered and stupid. One can only hope.

It'll never happen . Cell phones have become a " vital " part of people's lives quicker than just about any invention in modern history . Many people lived for years without electricity , I see homeless people every day talking on cell phones .

I dont make it a habit of talking on the phone in my car. In fact I kind of hate it. but sometimes Im driving home from work in the morning and day dispatch will call to see whats going on and they need a quick answer. That or Im heading back to my parents home and they call me needing groceries or something. Its pretty much only used when I need it and not just for talking for the sake of it.
