There's a fake beach at the lake. Blue Bayou is a water park outside of Baton Rouge. You can head east to Biloxi to go to the beach.

Tell me, what is the closest beach to downtown new orleans? I'm visiting here for the next two days, αnd I really would like to see a real, free, non-touristy beach before I tie up here. We are going to be downtown mostly today, but tomorrow should be great for a dip! 30 minutes max…

Out of luck. Closest is MS or AL.

You could do some "beaches" along Lake Ponchartrain and the water is brackish. Or you would have to go to the Mississippi coast which would most likely be at least 45 minutes away.
