If you were to take a single-day trip to Lafayette, what would you say are the must-see attractions in town? I tend to lean more towards the "local" than the "tourist" type of sights, but I've never been to Cajun Country, so if there's something that is a necessity then post it regardless. Museums, sights, restaurants, bars...list it all.

Take a swamp tour, visit restaurants like Prejeans or Randols, visit Vermillionville/Acadian Village, go hang out downtown at local cafes/shops and listen to live cajun/zydeco music every night, go to art galleries, visit the visitors center on Evangeline Throughway, and make sure at some point to try boudin. Trust me.

Depends on what your interests are. Lafayette has a plethora of restaraunts, covering most cuisine types, and local points of interest include Vermilionville (Cajun village recreation) and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). Try 101.1 FM KBON for cajun and french music. If you venture a bit further swamp tours can be found.
You will not find theme parks or least common denominator type of tourist attractions in the Lafayette area. Baton Rouge has that kind of stuff.
Acadiana has it's own rhythm, it's own pace... that may seem slow compared to other locations, but is unique and must be experienced. You will find warm welcomes and Cajun charm when you visit!
