Well it's a city of about 50,000 and is located in northeastern Louisiana, about 90 miles east of Shreveport. It's home to ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) and the CenturyTel wireless corporation is headquartered there. Decent shopping and a nice zoo for a city its size, though unfortunately I must say it doesn't seem to have a lot going for it these days as far as progress is concerned. For a long while Monroe was growing at a faster rate than Shreveport-Bossier, but is now losing residents and has been surpassed in size by Bossier City.

I like Monroe and I hope to see things change in the future.

Default Monroe

I worked out of hotels on I-20 in West Monroe for several months doing courthouse title research in downtown.

It has a High crime rate per capita and mediocre schools, but small enough that you can live out of town and commute. You should to do a careful crime stats check before you buy or rent in the area.

Emissions from 2 Paper plants cause very ill smelling air on some days. Know which way the prevailing wind blows, towards are away from your home.

On the other hand, everyone seems very friendly and the courthouse staff is excellent. There are several good restaurants and clubs. The traffic isn't bad.

Good luck.
