What are some good restaurants that are like some mom and pop places? I'm not interested in chain spots I live an hour from Lafayette and me and the wife go all the time to the chain joints but would like to know some of the secret spots.

There are too many to mention, but one of my new favorites is
The French Press downtown. It's mostly a breakfast and lunch establishment, but is open evenings on Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Mondays.
