Front page of today's American Press:
"A recent USA Today article listed Lake Charles as one of the top 10 destinations for a holiday getaway--a ranking that included Hawaii, Turks and Caicos, and Los Angeles."

I haven't read the complete USA Today article, but was pretty surprised to read this this morning.

Here's a link to the USA Today article:
10 great places for families to escape the snow

This is what it had to say about Lake Charles:
Celebrate Mardi Gras family-style at this southwestern Louisiana city, where the parades and festivities play up tradition more than titillation. There's also opportunity for beaches, biking, and exploring marshland along the 180-mile Creole Nature Trail All-American Road, says Blair. "The food is so good, and the scenery is just pretty with Spanish moss and big oak trees and swamp land." 800-456-7952; visitlakecharles.org

I'm enjoying living in Lake Charles, but I have to admit it seems a stretch to include it on a Top 10 List with other vacation destinations such as Hawaii, Sanibel Island, and Turks and Caicos. Hmmmmm.

New Orleans probably wouldn't even rank that high.

I hope this doesn't come across as offensive - chalk it up to my rural California ignorance - but I'd like to know which of these two videos gives the more accurate picture of Lake Charles. Quite honestly, for such a small city, the second one is worrisome.

Ummm....I'd say #1, but Lake Charles does have some impoverished areas as well. However, for the most part the city is pretty safe. That music video is not the most accurate representation of LC.

Yeah, either choose between tourism videos which tend to exaggerate the good things about a place or rap videos which tend to exaggerate the bad things about a place.

Also you can pretty much find those types of rap videos in any place with a decent sized poor Black population, probably even in small towns.
