As part of my Southeast trip, I'm going to NOLA in April/May after I hit Pensacola. I choose only New Orleans as a place to see. I've never been there, so I really have no idea if those are good places to see.

Can someone tell me:

a) if there are other places to see?
b) suggest specific things to do in NOLA/ where-ever else?

I'm in my early 30's --- and like fishing, outdoors, hiking, sports, eating healthy food, drinking unique beer, drinking wine, bars/music/jazz all great.

I'll have a rental car the entire time. And there's no time limit on my trip.

Thank you all.

New Orleans is definitely a worthy stop on a roadtrip through the south east.

If you do enjoy fishing and are an outdoorsy type of person, you might want to look into a chartered fishing trip. The wetland south of the city is some of the best fishing real estate anywhere.

Swamp tours can be fun if you haven't been to a swamp before.

As for the city itself, there is plenty to do. The Avenue Pub is the BEST bar for craft beer. Other good ones are Cooter Browns, Rendevous, and The Bulldog. Delachaise is a great wine bar, also check out Wine Institute of New Orleans (WINO) For live music, head to Frenchmen St. There's always a good variety of music oozing out of the clubs. Walk some sections of Magazine St to see all the shops and maybe do an impromtu bar crawl.

Healthy food? Sorry, you're SOL.

Seriously, there are a few good places. Most of them are outside of the Quarter in the Marigny/Bywater or Uptown. However, Green Goddess is in the Quarter and has a progressive menu with some interesting foods.
