Our family is relocating from Lafayette to Houma. Neither of us are 'from' Laf, but we absolutely love it. From what I understand, Houma is very similar. Thoughts/comments?

Any tips on where to live? Is acreage hard to find? We do have a child in school and would love info on schools, also.

Thanks!

Houma is a good town. Smaller than Lafayette and not as many dining options. The mall in Houma isn't anything to write home about. However, it does have most of the major big box retailers, as well as some great locally-owned supermarkets like Rouses and Canatta's (sp?). It seems like alot of people prefer to be on the west side of Houma as opposed the east side. The dividing line is the Intracoastal Waterway.

Mulberry Elementary is supposed to be good. Although I haven't heard good things about the rest of the public schools in Houma.

I don't live there, so hopefully someone who does will chime in.
