Stay away from covington unless you're elderly, wealthy, white, or love driving in traffic.

Default Hello again...

Hi Cindy
Thanks for asking....
No we haven't moved yet. My husband's employer periodically brings up Covington, LA, but we don't know yet. So "just incase", I am just trying to get familiar with the area and what it has to offer etc. since I have never been there. Anyone have anything to add...

Thank you all for taking the time to post about it.

Regards,
Kali
PS Are there any websites that indicate the locations and quality of the schools there?

It's a great place, don't worry about the haters. Seriously. It's not a stuck-up area, it's very progressive and will be one of your best bets if you are moving to Louisiana. Chevron recently relocated its regional headquarters to Covington from New Orleans, and Smoothie King is a major company that is based there.

As I said, it's a very nice place. It's very progressive and wealthier than most Louisiana cities, and best of all it's not far outside of New Orleans.

It's really nice living on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain (where Covington is) if you work on the northshore too so you don't have to commute to the city everyday. That's where the real traffic headaches begin. The schools are St. Tammany Parish (if you are interested in public schools) Generally they are very good on the northshore. Here's a few links I found on Yahoo but I'm sure there is more stuff on there...

St. Tammany Parish School Board

St. Tammany Parish School District Schools, Covington - LA: charter and public schools. Covington School District - Covington LA School District - 48k - Cached

Hope this helps you a little...best of luck to you....

Kali I asked you about Covington about six months ago! Here I am. It's as nice as the city's website promised. Very happy.
