Lake Charles is a good place to live, but the people that is running the show need to know that all the young people are moving away, because there is nothing to do here. There is only cowboys really, and you get kicked out if you shirt come untucked. i want to see lake charles grow at a fast rate. creating jobs for the young and some type of entertainment. Also fix our poor downtown area. all the top corps. are BANKS. there's CAPITAL ONE, CHASE, MID SOUTH, FIRST FED, SOME BAR AND SHOPS. AND THE DATED CIVIC CENTER. yes we have some good Casinos. but it is not all that. i love LC to death, but i don't know how long i will be here if something does happen soon. and i mean really soon.

Lake charles is a slow growing city. we need more big bussiness. that will bring the job and more interest to lakecharles. people will start to pore more money into our city, because they know the bussiness will go far. we all know a city without the young generation is a poor city. lake charles goals should be to big new corps town. we live not far from houston for god sake. our location is good. we should have no problems becoming a larger city. but it is shown to be poor leadership. don't get me wrong, the mayor of lake charles is a good mayor. he is trying to do his best to make our city grow. He just need to reach the young people. you know the ones that will be living here in the next 30-60 years.

Just FYI many cities' downtown skylines are dominated by bank buildings.

As for the rest of your post, sorry I wish I could comment. I'm just not really familiar with southwest Louisiana. Seems like a nice place, though, from what I've seen of it. The L'auberge is a very nice resort.

Default Downtowns not just dominated by BANKS

FYI------not all downtown skylines are dominated by banks. yes maybe in small town like LC and Sheveport. but if you go to Houston or your much larger citys you have ture corps in play, not just banks.

I don't go out anymore but Cowboys is far from the only club in LC. They are all over the place.
When I look around LC, I really wonder, "what else could a person want?" I just don't get it when people say there's nothing to do.
There are movies. There's golf and mini golf. There's bowling. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. There's a college. There are casinos. We have the occasional concert and plays at the Rosa Heart. About the only thing that we're lacking is a really nice museum and a zoo. When we want that, we go to Houston. We used to have a go cart track but they closed that down years ago. It'd be nice to have it back. We have hockey and arena football.
I guess any place is what you make of it.

No need to be offended,Moderator cut: c'mon, SBC. And give me a break, Shreveport is a much larger city than Lake Charles. Lake Charles has 1 or 2 buildings making up its skyline. Shreveport's skyline is dominated by banks, investment firms, and casino hotels. No comparison to Lake Charles' skyline, which has one bank building and one casino hotel making up its skyline.

But for the record, here is a list of skylines in the nation, LARGER THAN LAKE CHARLES OR SHREVEPORT, that I know are dominated by banks:

Atlanta
Austin
Birmingham
Charlotte
Los Angeles
Phoenix

Even the second-tallest building in New York City, which is now under construction, is a bank building (Bank of America.) And the second- and fourth-tallest buildings in Miami, which is rapidly becoming the New York City of the south, are bank buildings.

New Orleans' and Houston's skylines are a mix of banks and energy companies, just like Shreveport's. And for the record, before you get your panties in a bunch again, Houston's two tallest buildings are bank buildings. (JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo.) Money makes the world go 'round, which is why so many cities' skylines are dominated by banks.

Moderator cut: rude

lol, Im so glad i found these forums, better than chattrooms!!!! UM......Lake Charles, That city gets spoke of in the same breath as Monroe. If our two mayors can get together and swap ideas we can be big cities, we lack each others strengths and weakness. Monroe seems to do good with the youth, high school football is so popular in this area, i thank west monroe high school got a show coming out. We have so, so many clubs, have many concerts. Theres drag racing, theres a zoo, museums, park life is healthy, and a very great college(We beat Alabama!!!). We lack a great selection of jobs though. We have a bunch of banks also, but its not downtown. I think we have everything a great city have but we are so divided. We can learn alot form Lake charles as weel ar monore. Suggestion, explore your town, take your friends to unique places talk about it and influence people, you'll be amazed at the effect of it.

He has gotten to comfortable with his job. He really is not doing much, I gotta say, I'm not impressed. He's only been trying to do this since 2002 and in all that damn time, all we got is 12 palm trees.

The original post is a bit misinformed. LC is not really growing by leaps and bounds, but other areas around it are. LC is not progressive thinking at all.
