Ok, I visited the Golden Nugget. Walked the boardwalk from there to L'auberge and then took the trolley back.

I ate at the buffet for New Year's Eve, it was very good.

Casino is much more beautiful than L'auberge on the outside (I never liked L'auberge), but on the inside is a bit too glitzy for my taste. I like the "lodge feel" of L'auberge. The fireplaces in L'auberge are so nice, especially on cold days.

Really? The Golden Nugget looks so plain on the outside. I think L'auberge is gorgeous. When you're coming over the 210 bridge the terraced hotel at L'auberge just looks stunning. The Nugget is a box; looks like any other hotel to me.

To each his own. L'auberge has that metallic look, looks too Vegasy for my taste. I like a more traditional hotel, besides Golden Nugget has beautiful balconies.

Now on the inside, I agree that L'auberge looks better. I love that Yellowstone lodge feel with the fireplaces.

But nothing in Louisiana looks like L'Auberge, because we don't have mountain lodges. They should have made it look like a plantation.

Originally Mojito Pointe was going to look like a plantation, it was beautiful. Plans got changed to what GN is today though.

Key point! L'Auberge only has balconies on a few rooms on the second floor which overlook the pool.

The pool area at Golden Nugget Lake Charles reminds me of a Best Western, not very eye appealing compared to the lazy river at L'Auberge.

I wouldn't know, the pool area wasn't finished at GN when I went. The L'auberge lazy river is very nice though.
