My husband and I will very likely be relocating to Lafayette from the Fort Worth area this summer. In addition to the move, I will be stepping away from my career in management to be a stay at home mom to our one year old son.

I'm a little nervous about the move/transition! In our area now, there is a very active mom culture...play dates, lots of kiddo activities, Facebook groups, etc.

Does anyone have any insight what the SAHM life is like in Lafayette? Will there be things to do? Any info or resources would be greatly appreciated!

Random thought... why not work at a daycare in Lafayette to pass the time with your son and earn a few dollars?

Obviously you love your family and the children at the daycare would benefit from such a kind person.

There is probably a similar network here. Do know there are plenty of things around here for kids. Girard Park near the college campus has a good playground, walking/jogging path with plenty of trees, recreation center (aerobics, yoga, & martial arts classes as well as weight room & outdoor pool for summer months), festival activities, ducks, pond, and in case of an accident it's located almost across the street from the area's oldest and largest general hospital. There are other parks and recreation centers in the area that offer some of the same things. One has an indoor heated swimming pool with water aerobics classes. All the recreation centers with swimming pools here offer swimming lessons. The Acadiana Park has nature trails and a nature station. Downtown has a children's museum as well as the main branch library that's about to reopen after a major renovation. Head south from Lafayette and there's a zoo and a place called Cart Ranch that offers mini-golf, go-carts, and other activities. Each community within Lafayette Parish offers soccer and baseball/softball league play. Plenty of places to play tennis and golf. If you're into hunting and or fishing, there's plenty of places in the area for that as well. There are small museums showing some of the history of the area including Acadian Village which is a collection of real historical houses and businesses brought together like a community village.

Lafayette should be the best town for kids to grown up.

NO: Too large, too messy
BR: No growth and too many casinos
SHV: It is declining..
LFT: Best family town for kids especially for background like Fort Worth. You kids will get a lot of fun and won't worry about travel to AA Center for 50 miles to watch a game or for fun.
