The City and LUS Fiber is tied with Singapore and Tokyo for the fastest internet gigabit speed in the world. The cost to residents is $70. To put this in perspective I pay closer to $100 per month for 1/1000th of this gigabit speed.

The story of this amazing city fight it here. Be warned, it is a bit techy: A Decade Ago Louisiana Stood Up to Giant Broadband ISPs, And Won | DSLReports, ISP Information

You betcha! LUS just embarrassed the pants off the big boys and girls that spent the last two decades wheeling and dealing and breathing fire while they did nothing except reap benefits and take taxpayer money to build out wonderful, but useless networks, that never worked. Now it is time for AT&T and Friends to pay the piper. LUS is leading the band as First Chair in the horn section.

If you are interested in the tech side of internet and broadband in general, Karl does a good job of keeping his finger on the pulse of America. Karl used to be really jaded but time has been on his side. He's not as irascible and unfriendly these days. He's usually spot on, and worth the read. .

Wow I'm impressed. I'm in Austin now (after a summer in Lafayette :-) and Google fiber is only getting started here. Lafayette is way ahead in this game.

We wanted LUS when we moved here last year but were not quite on the grid, so...AT&T We're renting now, and when we look for places to buy, this will definitely be on our criteria list.
