Looking to relocate from Oklahoma to Louisiana, preferably within 30 minutes of New Orleans.
As of now, I'm not opposed to further cities, (such as Baton Rogue) but no further than 1h30m drive.
I'm literally just beginning my search. My main priority is my sons' care, education, resources & his ability to thrive there. Ds has high functioning autism, socially awkward with little friends but not many behavior problems. He's partly integrated in the "normal" classroom but at least 3 years behind in some areas. His iq & other test scores are low, Social skills & critical thinking are lacking too but.., I say all that to say, since getting into a better school 2 years ago he's advancing & he has every intention of catching up & I'm hoping he does because he'd like to go to college one day. He's determined & a very hard worker!

Right now he is in 8th grade in public school. We moved from tulsa because the schools are awful. understaffed, have no funds, & he was put to the side. We are in a nice suburb now, (a little out of our means lol but he's thriving! --$$=funding=resources, & that seems to make all the difference in the world in our schools). I assume that'd be the formula anywhere but the more I read the more I'm confused.
I ask, "What are some good neighborhoods near New Orleans & which of those have schools with a good special education program?" I have received 2 answers... Meterie(sp) & "none, we moved from Louisiana".
I also read there are only charter schools in that area but I'm unsure if thats Nola exclusively..?

***I'm open to all suggestions, advice, I'd love to hear experiences good/bad, whether it's a charter, private, or public. I'm assuming we have to start out public bc of $ & we are not residents yet but I'll look into everythiing. I've pretty much ruled out New Orleans already just bc I haven't heard anythig promising ***
Thanks so much!!
