We are moving to Ruston this summer and will be working at Louisiana Tech (I will be part time). We have two children, rising 4th and 7th graders, and are trying to get more information on schools. They attended a public Montessori charter school in the past, and that was a really great fit for both of them. Does anyone have info on the AE Phillips Lab School (K8), the Wildflower Montessori School (K8), or local homeschoolers? If we homeschool we prefer to join families that are open to any religions rather than a Christian homeschool group. My kids are both very self motivated, intelligent, creative, but do not do well in high pressure environments. I have looked online, but would love to hear experiences from real people. Thanks!

Hello! I lived in Ruson for a few years before moving to Baton Rouge. Ruston is really a great place and it has expanded so well. You have schools (for 5th grade and under) like Ruston Elementary, Cyper Springs, Hill Crest(best pick), AEP, and so on. For Junior high AEP/ Cedar Creek/ Ruston Jr. high are nice schools. I knew a family that was being homeschooled. Ruston has a "co-op" for homeschoolers where everyone in the Ruston area go to class there, I believe once a week. My friend claim that her kids loved it so much. They have science classes, geography, and so much more. I do believe West Monroe or Monroe has a co-op too. I should warn you if you are going to be homeschooling your child get ready to participate (if they join co op). My friend always complained about helping out (which is required). I think she picked the "clean up" duty.
