Louisiana governor hints at LSU football being halted by budgetary issues

I really don't see LSU football going away. I don't.

What do y'all think of this?

From what I understand, the Governor and Legislature have very few avenues in which to cut the state budget. Most of the spending is "locked in" via constitutional amendments. Healthcare and Education are some of the few areas that they can attack.

They have and will continue to do so.

This is the same crap Moonbeam and company pulled in California. They cut the most essential and most popular things first, making people feel the cuts, hoping it leads to an appreciation for high taxes.

Losing LSU football sounds like a huge culture shock, but it's better than Moonbeam letting prisoners back on the street.

Just a scare tactic to get people's attention...I'm sure he knows the voters would never forgive him if they failed to keep Tiger football going.

Great idea! We should get rid of the athletic programs at LSU to help provide a better education for all students.

Additionally if students want free tuition (TOPS) they have to expect the entertainment will go away.

At most 120 students are on the LSU football team but thousands attend the university so they can get a job and raise a family. What is more important the needs of the few or the needs of the many?

If I had the power of a king, I'd completely divorce athletics from education; replace it with tax-supported community-based athletic clubs. Then again, I might have to do the same for theater, given that like athletics, only a lucky and talented few will ever make profitable careers in these endeavors.

Louisiana simply needs to trash its current constitution and make a new one from scratch! Having that many budgetary restrictions is a major thing holding the state back.

Sounds like a scare tactic to me. I agree with OP that LSU football would NEVER be cut or eliminated. If there is a will, there is a way, something else will take the fall instead.

LMAO the likelihood of that happening is probably the same as me getting a phone call from Sandra Bullock for an evening of Netflix and online gaming.

Football is usually the profit center in MOST Universities with top ranked teams. Maybe the other Professors don't like it but they know that a coach with a 12-1 winning season has TENURE. Until he has a 8-4 season at least.

Sad you have to threaten the proles with taking their beer and circuses away in order for them to pay attention and give a s**t about their own economic dispossession. We deserve the government we get.
