Also, if you're familiar with some areas, do some back roads. You can come across many. But, the Atchafalaya is your best bet. Take I-10 to Henderson, you can go tour some of these waters. I went many moons ago but remember that it was a great experience.

Am in total agreement with Atchafalya! Lake Martin is also interesting with lots of water lilies and nutria, but not as large. Assumption, Ascension and Lower St. Martin Parishes also have interesting swamps with lots of history. Enjoy/Let the good times roll!

You have been reading too many books. There is nothing enchanting about a swamp. Rodents bigger than family cats, mosquitoes, no see ums, ticks, bears, alligators, snakes....not MY idea of enchanting.

Yea really. The swamps offer beauty along with it's snakes and other things. If not, it wouldn't be a swamp. IMO during the winter months, the swamps and bayous are more beautiful. The grayness, chilly air, songs of the birds echoing throughout... Something that can't be explained. You have to witness it.
