Ruston is not tropical savannah like where you come from. Ruston is subtropical with winter rainfall maximums as it is far inland from a lot of the Gulf humidity/thunderstorms but it has decent rain throughout the year. What that means is that winter is cold and rainy compared to what you're used to and the other seasons have decent amount of rain but there is a pronounced summer drought. Summer is very hot with temps 90-100F all summer. Winter is cold about 40-50F.

LA Tech is a very good school especially for Chemical Engineering at the Graduate level. The only jobs in Ruston are at the university. After you graduate you will most likely have to move to Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, or New Orleans for jobs.

Crime is very high in all of Louisiana. Many people have guns.
