In years past, possibly. Today I believe, there is more tradional, or supertious beliefs that remain. Some may be 'zoodoo', some family or religious based. Beautiful cultural, nothing to be afraid of.

Moreso in and around New Orleans. The areas known for bayous and swamps (Cajun country) didn't have much African/Caribbean influences compared to New Orleans.

Don't believe everything you see on TV . If you look hard enough you'll probably find some wanna-be pretending to practice Voodoo but most have no clue what it's really about .
The tourist love it though .

The swamps are not for everybody. I find them incredibly beautiful to safely float through and enjoy for it's haunting beauty and tranquility. They are very peaceful. I don't envy those who live in those areas but, hey, they know how to thrive in it.

Good info. I may have to check out Atchafalaya one of these years.

Highly agree with you. Also about the "vampires". But, I find that New Orleans is a huge vampire. Not for blood, for money. Very expensive city. The Big Easy? Maybe so, but not easy on your check book.
