Looking to rent an apartment but everyone says you have to make 3 times the amount of lease. Even though I could afford most places I unfortunately do not make that much. I was wondering if it was legal to have someone else on the lease for further proof of income but that person not actually living there.

If you are a first time renter then please understand that EVERYONE has lived in a cheap apartment while starting out in life and moving away from home. You should find an apartment that is cheap not an apartment that will impress your friends.

Do you really want to work the next 2 years and have $0.00 because you leased a fancy apartment?

Do you want to save that money you earn and have a down payment for a house?

Do you enjoy paying rich landlords for their fancy apartments so they can drive fancy cars?

I completely understand about finding a cheaper apartment. But they are hard to find and in less than desirable areas.

But I really hope someone does have any info on my original question.

In whatever city you live in, you typically do not have to make 3 times the rent in a month, I've never made that and have gotten into all of my apartments. I would just apply and worry about it if they bring it up, I think it's more of a general rule and not policy because most of my friends would be living under a bridge if this were upheld.
I mean people say that you shouldn't spend more than 33% on your home/rent but lol.
