Trump is known to be part devil and part sociopath so LSU is making sure that they have evidence that shows their non defiant position.

This is the first I've read or heard about various colleges threatening their students with ticket loss if they should make bold to protest.

Glad they are backing down - any decent lawyer could (and probably did) advise the colleges' decision-makers that this would be completely unconstitutional - heck, I'm no lawyer but I know that, so perhaps I could add "anyone reasonably well-informed about the 1st Amendment" to "any decent lawyer".
