I can't help but wonder this. At what speed do you start risk getting pulled over? I do 75 - 77. I try to stay out of 80 but I do see people doing it.

I got stopped on I-10 doing 83 on 70 limit. And ticketed. Usually you're allowed 10 mph above, anything after you're fair game to get stopped. But I could be wrong. But I was never stopped doing 75 -80. I could have been lucky or....

As always, depends on just what parish you may be in. But I've never had any trouble at 79. I have been pulled over for 81.
But I don't know about I-49 where the limit is 75 for the most part. Only Washington La gave out tickets for over 70, but that was a speed trap. Haven't seen radar sitting on the road the last 2 or 3 times I've been down that way.

I just drive 70 mph and don't worry about speeding.

1. I'll never get caught. I never have.
2. If I need to be somewhere, I will just leave early to account for any extra time.

I didn't know I-49 had a limit of 75. I thought you had to be in Texas and further west for that.

It's 75 mph north of Washington LA all the way to Shreveport. I-10 is only 70 mph. There are no stretches of 75 mph. Same for I-12. The highest speed limit is 70 mph.

On a 70 mph road, never hit 80 or above. 80 is a magic number for most troopers.

This coming from an ex-trooper.

Is it true that radar has a margin of error up to 5 mph?

Not really. Radars are supposed to be calibrated throughout the shift. It’s the judges that’ll allow you 3-5 mph as a courtesy.
