If anyone has any experiences of moving from the midwest to N. O. or Louisiana in general, could you please post them?Any at all welcome- or if anyone has just visited from the midwest N. O or surrouding area, post. What were your opinions.. I've never been there.I want to visit eventually- I have a very close friend in Metairie for a few years, so I've heard about Lousiana from the perspective of someone who was born there, has lived there all her life- she's never been to the midwest- but knows people who have from LA who loved the midwest. I'm from IA.I love what I've heard of Louisiana- N. O.I am not going to be visiting for a few years though. Maybe this can be moved to the New Orleans forum? I'm not sure how to do that. Don't alot of transplants to Louisiana live in the Northshore area?

I went to college in Illinois and I am from the east coast. I've lived in LA for 29 years. I guess that says something for the place.

Thanks! I am glad you like living there. One common connection in the landscape of the South and parts of the midwest is the Mississsipi- that would be familiar because I live by the Mississipi in Iowa.I am mainly interested in N. O and Metairie, and other suburbs of N.O.

Not really the Midwest per say but I am originally from Colorado, lived in Houston for awhile, now in Lafayette trying to finish up with school.

Ah, along the river in Iowa, eh? That reminded me of one of the gals I dated in college who was from Hamilton, IL — right across the river from Keokuk, but that's another story.
OK, here's the deal on the New Orleans area.
Traffic congestion is unbearable.
Housing prices are higher than they should be, thanks to Katrina.
It seems as if the populace resents not being the #1 murder capital of the USA and are doing everything in their power to regain their position. Crime is a real problem here if you didn't know.
Other than that, I'd have to say that IF I were moving to another city in the deep south and near the Gulf Coast, based on my experiences, I'd rather move to Mobile or Pensacola. If I had to choose between Houston and New Orleans I'd have to flip a coin.
Since you mentioned the north shore, yes, Covington and Mandeville are nice places that are growing faster than they should. Just think about all of the problems associated with that. I think I'd rather look to live in the La Place area for a number of reasons if I did not want to live in the city itself. Metairie and Kenner are just too cookie cutter for my tastes.
