Just moved to Alex. Can't afford to go home to FL. for christmas. Does anyone know anything not too far away that would be a great thing to do/place to visit for the holidays?

In Lafayette there's the Christmas lights at the Acadian Village. It's so popular that traffic backs up when they start. The surrounding cities and towns in your area usually have their own Christmas parade. They're usually staggered giving people an opportunity to attend many of the parades.

Default Natchitoches "City of Lights"

Just north of you is Natchitoches, the "City of Lights". They put on a really nice Christmas light display every year. Here's a link:

Also, for years, the Timber Trails subdivison (on the Grant/Rapides line on US 167) used to have really nice Christmas light displays.

I think the OP meant the other LA ... Louisiana.

Anyway, the Holiday Trail of Lights is quite nice. Google that. I believe it extends from Natchitoches, up through Shreveport-Bossier, and over to Marshall, TX.
