the best thing of course is that it was owned by France, and contributed a distinct nonAnglo
history and flavour to the fabric of what would eventually become the United States

Mixtures of language--- lots of French of course---lots of Spanish influence----Carribean---
African, Indigenous Peoples, and English

Lousiana is unique in its contribution of incorporating many features of the Catholic church
in how political subdivisions were established and maintained

the 'best thing' may be its 'uniqueness' in American history !

btw, Shreveport might as well be Arkansas- the unique blend of
cultures seems to be isolated to the south and coastal areas--
still other areas might as well be 'labeled' Mississippi- the state
seems to be actually 'three states'

I'm more Texas than Arkansas. I love the Cowboys, I love Dallas and Houston, I love everything about Texas! I LIKE Arkansas but I feel no real connection to it. Shreveport's city limits almost touches the Texas state line, but we're 30+ miles from Arkansas.
