The evening nightly news has been showing preliminary maps of the U.S. electoral shaded in either dark blue, light blue, dark red or light red as to where states are leaning. Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, and New Hampshire are the only gray states which are split down the middle for Romney and Obama. My question is, if Louisiana is generally a poor state, along with a high African American population percentage-wise, why is it dark red? mod cut

MOD NOTE: We can discuss why LA might be turning red, but this will not turn into a political debate of Obama versus Romney - there is a forum for that. There will be no lambasting of candidates or sales jobs. That's for the Politics and Other Controversies forum and there is a special election forum where you can state your views. Thank you for your cooperation.

First of all, your assumption that only the rich vote Republican is incorrect.

Secondly, although there is a large African-American population here, the state is still majority white, and a large portion of the state is religious conservatives- both Protestant and Catholic.
