Hello!

We are relocating to Ruston, Louisiana for grad school. We will be visiting in a few weeks, and are so excited!

If you have any suggestions on places to eat, see, or even neighborhoods near the school, we'd really appreciate it!

Thank you all in advance!

Have a great day!

It won't take very long to see most of Ruston. Ruston is pretty small. If you like pizza i would recommend Johnny's Pizza. If your in the mood for mexican we like Chili Verde off Thomas Rd Exit in West Monroe. Lincoln Parish Park is nice, nice biking trails. I don't know anything about the neighborhoods but there are some near the college. For "mall" shopping go to Monroe or Shreveport. Shreveport has a boardwalk and casinos. You'll be suprised how often you will make the trip to those cities. You get use to the drive. Hope you have a good trip....it's hot and humid.

Thank you so much, CooperTrooper! I appreciate the information! I can't wait to visit. It's fun to research online, but so hard to visualize it in my head, if that makes any sense. Those restaurants sound great--and I love pizza and Mexican food, so thank you!

I think we're heading there mid-June. Thanks again!

When I was at Tech (over 10 years ago) the campus had some of the best food. But then they started contracting the food service to private companies and the quality went down. As a student you could (when I was there) always find a good home cooked meal at the various religious unions around campus at the time they were only a dollar for a good meal. And they don't care if you are that particular religion or not. I know some people who would go to them everyday (the lunches are usually only once a week and different days each place). Ruston has also changed alot from when I was there but one place that's still there and is good is Dowlings Smokehouse. It's just north of I-20 on Cooktown Road (What's known as Tech Drive south of the Interstate). Head north from the interstate and it's on the left not very far. When I was there Ruston didn't have a large variety of restaurants, so like CooperTrooper said, we'd often head to Monroe or Shreveport - mostly Monroe, closer and less crime
