Traffic is not bad, its just the distance and road quailty. Easily a 45 minute drive. If you like Bullit County, do yourself a favor and stay closer to I-65 like around Shepherdsville.

True, you can shave 10 minutes off your commute by moving nearer to Shepherdsville (I-65) but Mt. Washington is immensely nicer. If you locate in Mt. Washington along hwy 44 Fort Knox should only be about a 25-30 minute drive sans traffic and not too much longer when you return in the afternoon. If you don't mind the country you can go down to Clermont (hwy 245) and find a nice property but it's bucolic and of your nearest shopping is Shepherdsville. Shepherdsville and nearby Hillview have a lot of stores and fast food restaurants and/but there is a large supply of cheap housing in these areas too. I haven't heard residents complain about the area. As always, a drive-by and see for your self is worth a thousand words.
