Specific Louisville neighborhoods... help? (Frankfort, Newburg: low crime, houses, to buy)

I'm in the market to buy a house in Louisville. Currently living in Etown and its so boring here, I'm going crazy. Basically what I hope to find in Louisville is a house in a quiet, low crime, residential neighborhood that is still a short cab ride from shopping/bars/restaurants/movies/etc. I used to like the Bardstown Road area but I felt old last time I went up there; and being old-ish, I don't care to live near the bars anymore.

As of right now, I love the Lyndon area. Low crime, close to shopping/restaurants/bars/etc (Westport Village looks enticing) and close to both 64 and the Watterson. My job requires some travel around the city so it would be nice to be close to the interstates like that.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find a house in that area (partially because my want list is deeper than my pockets, hah!).

Are there any other neighborhoods in Louisville that are similar to Lyndon?

Also, I have found some great houses in my price range... in the Fincastle/Worthington Hills area and out near McNeely Lake. Problem is, these just seem so far out away from the city... But then again, I'm not sure that I'd mind so much as long as there was plenty to do nearby.

I just don't know... Any advice?

Have you checked Audubon Park area...its quiet, never hear of any crime, and short to movies, etc...short distance from downtown and the Highlands also close to I-65 and Watterson, walking distance IMO to the fairgrounds. The homes on and around Eastern Pkwy are nice...not sure of your price range. Tyler Park area (not sure if thats considered Highlands) but its close enough to take advantage of its amenities, but not so close that you're bothered by the barhoppers/traffic. Also around the zoo Newburg Rd/Trevilian Way are some nice quiet neighborhoods IMO that are not too far from downtown. As far as McNeely Lake area not much to do around there except going to McNeely Lake but movies are short cab drive away as well as Jefferson Mall and a few decent restaurants. I agree that it feels far from the city. Crescent Hill/Frankfort Ave is definitely worth a look...there's plenty to do around there, very close to downtown. Also one of my favorites the Kenwood area..some nice quiet neighborhoods, low crime...beautiful IMO, no movies but they do have a drive-in, Watterson is closest expressway, but many nearby streets (3rd St., Southern Pkwy, Taylor Blvd) will take you into downtown. I265 (Gene Snyder Frwy) is also nearby. Hope this helps and good luck.

With new interstate access and a revamped shopping center in its favor I think you should check out the Westport Rd. Corridor by the Watterson (I-264). It's a short hop to all the great shopping in St. Mathews, a terrific new strip mall (actually the revamped Camelot Shopping Center), and it has great interstate access. Better yet there's still plenty of 'affordable' housing and prices are sure to go up.

In the past this was an often over looked area because it was hard to get to from the interstate. Recently there was an exodus of people wanting to avoid the construction and the anticipated increased traffic from the new ramp. Unfortunately for them they sold at the worst possible time because this is now an up and coming area. Prices are still reasonable but they should start marching towards St. Mathews-like prices.

There's an affordable subdivision in any direction except to the north and you can still find some relatively good bargains in that direction too.

For instance, in Briarwood there's a nice 1,350 Sq.Ft. 3 bed, 2 bath 1 story for $125,000 within 2 miles of the new ramp. In Plantation there is a 1,500 Sq.Ft. tri-level 3 bed, 1.5 bath for $132,000. Closer in, within a half mile of the interstate, there is a 1 story with a partially finished basement in Camelot with 1,400 Sq.Ft. upstairs and another 620 downstairs for $159,000.

I can't think of a better location for the price (and safety) if you want to be close to town and don't care to be in Highlands.

There is a neighborhood in Hikes Point called St. Regis Park that is centrally located, quiet, and can range in home values from 100k to 400k. I'd recommend it.

I agree with bbkennedy, the Westport Road area sounds like what you're looking for. Also, the Worthington area you mentioned is close to Westport Road and is also close to the Summit shopping center and Springhurst shopping center with Tinseltown movie theater, restaurants, etc. I pretty close to that area over the county line into Oldham County, but being that it is close to I-71/I-26, and the Watterson, it really takes no time at all to get downtown.

Thank you guys!!! I think the Westport Rd area really is the best fit for me. Now to just find a house!
