My Wife and I have lived all over the country, and she has been an educator for a while.
We settled in Louisville in part by the position offered to her in the Oldham County School District.

It is simply one of the best school systems in the country, not just KY.
For teacher or student, there is no comparison between the districts, overall.
Welcome to the forum. Although I disagree that OC is THAT much better than JCPS mainly because JCPS has a few stellar schools that really outshine its very poor performers. That said, where are you from, and where have you lived?

Once again, your eyes remain closed. Yes, everyone admits that "JCPS hasa few stellar schools," but our point is why aren't all the JCPS schools stellar? Why are there better schools than Waggener? Why doesn't every child get to go to a Male, a Manual, Eastern, or Ballard?

You must be joking if you think because of a few stellar schools which no one can attend makes the entire system good. Like the old American Negro College Fund advertisement stated, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." Who has the right to choose, as the JCPS Board of Education must, that they have the power to choose which minds to waste?

I won't wast much time responding to this. JCPS is among the largest school districts in America. You cannot compare it to a rural/exurban, 95% white county school district. JCPS has a bit of everything just like a major city, and I am thankful for that and its diversity.

Ok, what you say is true, but if so, it's an excuse for wasting thousands of young minds, destroying communities, and killing lives.

STX, or St. Peter, or whatever you wish to call yourself, you win, but 1,000's lose if not hundreds of thousands lose.

Thank you for welcome.

My wife and I love to travel and have lived in four states in just the past
10 years, alone. PA, VT, FL and now KY. Extended stays in a few more.
Item for item, the important stuff to us, Louisville has more positives than
any other place we've lived. Who'da thought !

It seems to me that basically what this thread is about is are you a close minded person who only wants your children to go to school with a bunch of other clones just like them, or do you want to have to be involved in your children's education and help them to discover themselves in a complex and diverse environment that can prepare them for life outside of here. Yes, I live in an area where we had to apply early to make sure our daughter got into a quality urban school. But my wife and I made sure we did it. When you look at standardized test scores look beyond the NCLB standards. Look at programs offered. I think we all need to stop worrying about excluding someone because of one thing or another and look instead at preparing our children to function in a global environment that actually involves (a shock to some of you out there) people of a different color and sexuality than white, evangelical, middle class suburban dwellers.

I was raised in western Kentucky and still have a brother and his siblings families in the Louisville-La Grange area. Back during the busing crisis in the 70s....my brother moved from Okolona to the Crestwood-Ballardsville area in Oldham county and his kids families now live there too and from all accounts all got excellent educations. My neice is active in the South Oldham middle school and her kids love it there.

The Oldham County School system is indeed diverse. Matter of fact, the typical student will be involved with more ethnicities than the typical JCPS student. With the several ghettos of Louisville: Russian, Baltic, Vietnamese, to name a few prominent non-black clusters, using the JCPS model (whichever one is most recent) there is an occassional tri-diverse grouping, but certainly not as in Oldham where any one class may contain, students from many lands and ethnicities.

Jnabelinky, I recommend that you actually tour Oldham County, it will surprise you.
