i've lived in the louisville area for almost two years now...and i love it. but, to be fair, i'm not able to get out much since i have a 50 minute commute every day.

i've got some friends coming to town in a couple weeks (october 15th/16th) and i want to show them a good time. does anyone know of some fun activities going on that weekend?

any suggestions? it seems that when i search around, i can't find much, but it seems that when i make my way out, there's always some festival that i hadn't heard about.

Lightbulb links....

Get ahold of the Chamber of Commerce. They publish an incredible book of things-to-do with contact information to be quite useful. They are next door to the Gault house.

Here are a couple of their links with a lot of ideas:

It's too bad it wasn't one week earlier for the St. James Art Festival and/or the World Equestrian Games!

Here are some ideas for you:

Now through the middle of November, there are walking "ghost tours" downtown that are 1/2 mile and are a lot of fun. I think the tour is about 90 minutes. It is led by a person in period costume who guides you by lantern to different historic landmarks! Here is the website http://www.louisvilleghosttours.com

There's a similar one in Old Louisville: Ghosts of Old Louisville

Germatown/Schnitzelburg Oktoberfest/Art Fair- This will be the 1st year for this event, so I can't say if it will be great or not. It will be on Oct. 16 and 17 from 4-midnight in the 1000 block of Burnett Street. From what I've read they will have live music, food and drinks and a benefit art show.

There's a free Andy Warhol exhibit at the Speed Museum of Art right now SPEED MUSEUM

The Belle of Louisville is having a Birthday Bash on the 17th of October to celebrate its 96th Birthday! Here is info about the daytime cruise: Steamboat Belle of Louisville - Cruise Calendar (http://belleoflouisville.org/schedule/cruisedetails.php?cd=1869&PHPSESSID=69d2095efb54d3 79065c564939ad459d - broken link)

STOMP will be in town at the Kentucky Center for the Arts Broadway Across America - Louisville

If there are kids in this group, the Louisville Zoo has their World's Largest Halloween Party Louisville Zoo - The World’s Largest Halloween Party! - October 2010 (http://www.louisvillezoo.org/events/halloween.htm - broken link)

If you're into haunted houses, there's the Danger Run Louisville's Premier Haunted Attraction with Two Haunted Houses

Good luck!

Baxter Avenue Morgue. That's an experience you can't get anywhere else, and even though there will be a wait to get in, the pre- and post-morgue experience at the Baxter bars is all right too.

Of course, Friday night the 15th is a Louisville football game that would be fun too.
