Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11)- There was a big honor to Louisville Friday. The city was awarded as a World Festival and Event City by the International Festivals and Events Association.

The city was given the award for the several events held in Louisville, including Light Up Louisville, Hike and Bike and WorldFest.

Several organizations were also recognized for helping to put on festivals like Abbey Road on the River, the Kentucky Derby Festival and Actors’ Theatre.

Those of us with long aquaintance with Louisville are well aware of the strong festival culture there. The obvious one are the events leading up to the Derby, but there are others. And some good ones that I used to hold dear, like Strassenfest and the Butchertown Oktoberfest, have come and gone, existing now only as fond memories.

Worldfest is a load of BS. That's watered down culture at it's finest. I know of several performers who offer authentic representations of cultural dancing and music from other countries but were rejected in favor of culture-lite performances.
And no, I am not a member of a group that was rejected for Worldfest so this is not a biased post.
I really wish the smaller festivals that give back to the community and/or celebrate the community were publicized as much as Worldfest.
