I'm moving to the Louisville area sometime this summer and I'm debating moving to Louisville proper or to IN. I saw a similar post regarding toll bridges (something I honestly hadn't considered) but I'm wondering more how the morning/afternoon commute to/from Louisville is. The trouble I'm having is that I'll be working at client locations and I'm not sure where those locations are yet. So I could be working anywhere from downtown Louisville to more towards the airport.

I really want to save toward a home and I've heard that living in IN is cheaper overall than living in Louisville. Taxes certainly seem cheaper and I know IN and KY have reciprocity.

Does anyone have any pros/cons about living in IN and working in the Louisville area? Is it a "good" (no stop-and-go) commute?

Thank you all!

ETA: I've worked somewhere that required crossing bridges. The bridges were always packed and God forbid if there was a wreck (and there was almost always a wreck). So I'm also a little nervous about having to rely on crossing bridges to get to work 5-6 days a week.

Depends on what you are used to.....Living in Floyds, Knobs IN there is a free bridge into downtown, almost always less than 20 min commute. If you are used to a top 10 metro the commute in Louisville will be a joke.

Yes, KY and IN have reciprocity so you will pay taxes in the state in which you live....but if you live in IN you will pay the circa 3% IN state taxes plus Louisville metro taxes which are around 1-2% oif you get your paycheck in the city. Still beats the 6% Ky state income tax by itself. Also most insurance is cheaper in IN and property tax is similar if you homestead.

Thanks! I currently have a 10 minute commute to work and it is glorious. I used to commute 45+ minutes and even that could get old fast - especially if I had to get to the office early. So I'm just weighing how much those minutes mean to me lol. Less than 20 minutes is do-able.
