Louisville A Top 10 City For Commuters - Louisville News Story - WLKY Louisville (http://www.wlky.com/news/27049176/detail.html - broken link)

Quote:
Louisville, Ky. -- A new list released by the kiplinger.com ranked Louisville as one of the top 10 best cities for commuters.

Louisville was ranked ninth because the website determined commutes were short and congestion was low.
While I think Louisville could have better access for the East End and Southern IN, I must say that I have nowhere near the traffic pain I had back in DC. I drive over 40 miles from the exurbs (Vine Grove) into work every morning and I can usually make the drive under 45 minutes.

The driving commute in greater Louisville isn't bad, for those who have cars. Louisville's public transportation is another story, a sad one.

You're right about that, particularly connecting southern Indiana towns with each other and with Louisville.

I think that hits the nail on the head. We got this ranking in spite of our public transportation system, not because of it.

I agree. However the only US city that has a public transit system to rave about is NYC. Houston's is surprisingly poor.

The one in DC isn't too bad. But your point is very well taken. Losing the trolley lines back after WWII was the worst thing that happened to most cities.
