Again, based on all the criteria you laid out, if you live in Bardstown, you will be 15 minutes to Jim Beam, will have a rural setting, decent schools, a small tourist town with a state park, and be only 30-40 minutes to everything Louisville has to offer.

If you need a Bardstown Realtor, you might try Julie McInness with RE/MAX Net Results.

I'm looking for an apartment or small home in Shepherdsville. I do not want to buy, I do have a large dog, I'd like to stay in the $1,000 a month range, and I need two bedrooms and at least a 1.5 bath. Is that going to be possible in the city or surrounds without my husband having to drive for 45 minutes or more to work daily?

1000 a month will rent you a PALACE in shepherdsville. Why not buy something if you have that much to spend? You could get a mortgage on a sweet 3 bedroom home on a golf course near Shepherdsville for under 1000 a month if your credit is good.

We'd love to be able to up it to three bedrooms, 2-2.5 baths, all on one floor and someone else to take care of outdoor maintenance is what I am looking for. We're not ready to commit to buying for a year or two until we're settled and know the area well. I want to find a teaching job of some kind and home - permanent home will need to be somewhere in between his work and mine so we don't have to commute insanely.

Space, environment and our dog are very important.

How is other cost of living? How about restaurants - maybe one nice one and others more family style? Any good Chinese or Thai? Shopping - run of the mill like Wal-Mart, Target, Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, Costco?

Not currently in Bullit County, and actually many of these stores are a decent hike, like Costco. The rest of the stores can be reached within 15 minutes from Bullit County. However, Shepherdsville will likely have a large retail center built out in the next five years close to where the new Lowes in Shepherdsville was built off Sam Shephered Parkway and I-65. This area is prime for retail growth once retailers start growing ie not in this sucky economy!
