Hi friends,

I have been a long term resident of the USA and now likely to be relocating internationally due to work and not sure when I will come back here and have time to visit your great city and the KY Derby.

Thus, I am planning to travel from HOUSTON (TX) to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby this year, ALONE, and need advise on where to stay any any admissions ticket that I can get for Derby day. I have read the posts on here, and a little confused about what goes on in the infield....since it seems like its pretty chaotic in there.

Can you please help me with:

1) Accommodation - I am not likely to be a couch surfer, thus looking for 2 nights (Fri May 06 and Sat May 07) stay for under $200 a night. I can rent a car and stay in one of the smaller towns nearby, but if there is some place that offers a shuttle service to and from the track that is the best

2) Any legitimate leads on ONE TICKET, I am not looking to spend $500 if possible...all I need is some place I can watch the race, and place my bets.

I look forward to your thoughts,

Thanks so much,
Regards,

wonderfultravels

no offense...but good luck this late. even the holiday inns in the suburbs go for 300 plus a night that weekend and require a 3 day stay. you will not be able to afford anywhere but infield this late. the good news is, if you are going alone, infield admission allows you to roam everywhere but the upperlevels of the grandstand. you could show up the day of derby and walk over to paddock and place bets or else you could fine a tamer side of the infield (pretty much anywhere is calmer except the third turn where college kids are). that said, all the "class" dressed up people will be in the grandstand. you may be able to find a cheap grandstand tiket on craigslist ro any online tocket broker site for under 300, but the seat wont be great.

i would start calling hotels now, and also look at craigslist and online for people subletting their homes or condos.

I will be attending the Derby alone as well and have no idea what to expect, but hope to have a good time. I got a room at the HoJo near the airport, but this was back in October or November so I planned early with that and my flight. I bought tickets to the infield so I guess I'll find out when I get there!
