When I clicked on the map part, it took me to Hepburn which is in the Highlands area. Otherwise, it isn't a good area of town.

I know exactly where it is located. I am down in that very area very often and I don't go there by myself since it isn't a safe area.

Huh? This area is prefectly fine. I completely disagree. This is the new liberty green development, which is a mixed income development. There are half a million dollar condos two blocks away. Nearby East Market Street is very upscale and nice. I could draw a map of this area and know it like the back of my hand. The only unruliness out of the area comes from the St John Day center on Hancock which feeds the poor but most of those people are harmless, just homeless. Now, I would not walk alone late at night, but you can say that about ANY residential street near the downtown of any major city.

I have seen too much and dealt with too much. I can't go into it here or personally. Usually, I am quite on the board to but just had to voice my opinion.

It's not THAT bad of an arena. In urban areas a couple blocks makes a huge difference. That area is more like Butchertown than it is like the areas near the public housing. I used to walk on Logan St in Smoketown (when I lived in Original Highlands) felt safe. It ain't Middletown but it ain't 28th and Broadway either

one night not that long ago while leaving work i saw about 15 thuggish characters beating 2 other young males half to death in the middle of the street not two blocks from there. I work with a man from croatia who was walking to work through that hood and was mugged, beaten and forced into the trunk of a car in broad daylight. I would also like to say that i'm not some bumpkin who is afriad of the city. grew up in chicago, lived in l.a. and detroit. that being said, there is no way i would purchase a home in that area. just my thoughts on the matter, everyone may disagree.

That area itself isn't overly dangerous. But it is very near areas that are. I'd be a little nervous walking that area at night.

This can happen anywhere....people have been mugged, raped, and shot in the Highlands...or Middletown. This story is anecdotal at best. If you can produce data showing this area has a much higher crime rate than most other urban areas in the nation, then we may have more to talk about. In fact last I heard, Louisville had a lower murder rate than Lexington, a city one third its size (and known to be among the safest in America).

Also, it is well know that much of the area crime comes from the Shepherd Square projects three blocks south of UofL Hospital, and these will be totally razed by 2012, with the area completely rebuilt and shiny new by 2016.
