My fiancee and I are planning on moving to Louisville from Indianapolis once we're married, but I was wondering -- does Louisville have any local craft breweries worth visiting? We're big fans of the craft breweries in Indianapolis and were hoping Louisville has something similar to offer.

BTW -- kudos for having such a welcoming, vibrant city. We're thrilled to be moving there next year. In the mean time, we can't get in enough visits!

Yes, we have more than a few of them:

http://www.bbcbrew.com/

http://www.cumberlandbrewery.com/

http://www.browningsbrewery.com/

There also is one in Southern Indiana, which I heard excellent things about but I've never been:

New Albanian Bank St Brewhouse 415 Bank Street, New Albany, IN 47150 (812) 725-9585 ‎

louisville has a great beer culture. bbc is solid, but new albanian brewing company at rich-o's public house is kinda legendary. sergios world beers on story ave. doesn't brew beer, but was voted top five beer selections in the WORLD this year.

not a whole lot of breweries, but an incredible selection. you can find just about anything you want from any part of the u.s. or world.

prost!!

The Keg Liquoirs in Clarksville has a great selection of beers, and the owner, Todd Antz is really cool and knowledgable about craft and micros.

BBC is great, and there are multiple locations. Cumberland and Brownings are pretty good. I never had the chance to try New Albanian when I was there but I've heard rave reviews of their beer.

This is just some of them, as I am aware of several more openings in the very new future with at least 4 new prewpubs scheduled to open soon.

Louisville Restaurants Forum • View topic - Four new breweries opening soon in Louisville!

Check around the forum there. With the exception of Chicago and New Orleans, Louisville has one of the most intense and diverse foodie scenes in the interior US. For what you will give up in pro sports in Indy, your restaurant and nightlife scene will be markedly improved IMO. Speaking of Indy expats, I met a very nice couple from Indy who opened a nice cafe and record store in NuLu called Please and Thank You.

Oh yeah, there's a somewhat newer place, BJ's Brewhouse... It's a chain but I believe they brew or at least carry their own beer. It's located at the Oxmoor Center in St. Matthews. Not sure if it's any good or not though and they seem to be all over after looking at their website.
